Happy New Year Guys!!!!
I hope you have all had an excellent break, coz I know that i have!!! I just came back from Ghana where I have had a brilliant time, but now its back to business!!
Well I've been an EXTREMELY lucky bunny in the past yr having travelled a few times, and it was whilst on a short break to Amsterdam in December that this guy came into my radar.
Xavier Naidoo is a German R&B singer/songwriter who has collaborated with various famous artists that include the legendary RZA from the one and only Wu-Tang Clan. He also recieved a MTV European Music Award in 2002 for the Best German Act.
Where am I going with this I hear you ask???
Well....
One night after sampling some of the delights that Amsterdam has to offer(wink wink), me and mates were up watching late night television. And whilst flicking through the channels, we decided to stop at MTV, which jus happened to be playing Dutch/German R&B videos.
Maybe I had tooooo much cake, but once I heard this song I was mesmerized. To me, Cassandra Steen's voice sounded like one of an angels!!
And the weird thing is, in my drug-induced state it felt like I could understand the words they were singing.
I know, I know, the english language has strong roots within the german language, and some phrases are bound to sound similar, but it was more than that.
The video I managed to find is exactly the one that I watched, and as you'll see, there's not much going on physically, but vocally its on a different level.
Although language is a barrier and I can't understand a word, the emotions of the song - heartache, pain, reckoning, in my opinion are still easily conveyed.
I think its crazy how you may not be able to share a conversation with someone because you speak different languages, but through song and music you can both come together and reach a common understanding!!!
Or was it too much cake????
You take a look and see for yourself!!

Hiplife
Hey guys!!!! Whilst you lot are all suffering in subzero temperatures, i'm here wilting like a weed in the sun!! Only joking but it is maaaaaaaaaaad hot out here, and my skin has definately got a few shades darker!!!
Soooo... being that i'm in Ghana, I've decided to do a blog on the popular Ghanian music that is called Hiplife. Its a mix of traditional Ghanian Highlife and Hip Hop, and after sinking a few cool bottles of beer in a spot (Ghanian term for pub) it gets any venue jumpin!!!
To begin with, we have Tinny with a song titled "Tingele"
Tinny ft Batman Samini "Now I Know"
KK Fosu with the "Sudjwe" remix ft Batman, Tinny and Kokovelli.
And finally Tsotso ft KK Fosu with "Wonkoaa

The world is a crazy place!!!!
What gets me, is that if she wants to believe that foolishness then that's her right, but to bring the child into it is just wrong!!
And i know this sounds like a stupid question, but isn't she of some form of black descent???

She's Baaccck!!!
As i was browsing the web, trying to find exciting news for all you hungry music fans, i came across this interesting video.
To those who don't know Mya is a multi-platinum American R&B singer/songwriter who does just about everything else you can imagine!!! She started her career in the late nineties and has 5 album releases under her belt.
Although very successful in the US, her tipping point over here was probably with her 2001 cover of 'Lady Marmalade', which was a collaboration with Pink, Lil' Kim and Christina Aguilera.
Now, as i earlier mentioned i came across something interesting, and this happened to be her new single 'Paradise' from her latest album Sugar & Spice. The song was written by the super fly Neyo, who is writing songs for practically every R&B singer at the moment!!
Surprisingly, the song is only being released in Japan, via iTunes.
Or maybe its not that big a surprise. I've never been that big a fan of Mya, although she has had a few classic tracks. To be blunt, i think its sounds a cheap rip off of Neyo's 'Independent Woman'
I'll leave it up to you to decide!!!!
